BERRICS SKATEZONE

With the increasing prohibition of skateboarding in cities and towns across the country, providing space for quality public skateparks is vital for the survival of the sport. Too often, resources are wasted on the developement of skateparks that do not recognize the aspects of skating landscapes that attract skaters; ledges, stairs, handrails and benches.

This flagship prototype for the Berrics Skatezone is envisioned as a multi-function space combining the sport of skateboarding with retail, performance and communication support spaces.

The design for the Berrics Skatezone utilizes a parametric material strategy anchored in the architectural language of the traditional skate-ramp construction. The flexibility of parametric modeling allows this prototype to respond to the varied dimensions and site conditions for future Berrics sites. The architectural element acts as screening device, creating varied relationships between the skatezone programs.
